Dell, which is in the business of churning out laptops, introduces the Dell XPS M1530. This model is designed for customers who have a hard time dealing with thick and heavy laptops. These consumers want to jump into the thin and light bandwagon. You can view different product features in netbook comparison.
Thus, in 2007, Dell released the Dell XPS M1330, which is the ancestor of the Dell XPS M1530. The XPS M1330 was thin and light compared to its earlier counterparts. However, customers complained about the small screen. To satisfy the customers’ needs of a light and thin laptop with an ample screen, Dell came up later with the XPS M1350.
Specifications:
| CPU | 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 |
| Hard Disk | 160GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD |
| RAM | 2GB DDR2-667 SDRAM |
| Screen Size | 15.4-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) CCFL glossy screen |
| Operating System | Windows Vista Home Premium |
| Battery Life | 6-cell or 9-cell |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR3 |
The Dell XPS M1530’s soft-touch finish comes in three basic colors: Crimson Red, Alpine White and Tuxedo Black. Yet, it is not at flashy and you would not be embarrassed bringing it to a business meeting. Dell’s offering is also very stylish.
Even thought the M1530 is large with a screen size of 15 inches, it is impressively light at about 2.6 kilograms. Colors aside, the M1530 is made up of aluminum, magnesium and steel components. With these features, a user can expect resistance to pressure and stability.
The keyboard, however, is quite quirky. It is firm and has little or no flex at all. A problem with the keyboard is that one’s fingernails can get caught under the keys. Yet, this would happen only if a user has long fingernails.
The M1530 also has a pleasant and responsive touch pad. Music aficionados might not find the sound system impressive. The M1530 lacks the ultimate sound system. The speaker system is found at the top of the keyboard and does not have an integrated subwoofer.
A typical gamer would be impressed with the M1530’s 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor. The NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT video card could also be adequate for the typical gamer. Hardcore gamers, though, might be a little disappointed.
If a hardcore gamer is engaged in Crysis, the game average at about 20 frames per second. Problems can also be faced when playing racing games, such as Need for Speed’s Pro Street. A hardcore gamer has alternative but to play such power-demanding games at lower resolutions. Other than that, the XPS M1530 would be a powerful device for everything else.
The only disadvantages to the XPS M1530 are the substandard sound quality and the slow speed of the frame rates. Otherwise, the notebook presents a very good alternative to other thin laptops of its kind.
Everybody else, except for the music lover or the hardcore gamer, will be satisfied with the Dell XPS M1530, which is clearly one of the outstanding 15 inch notebooks out on the market. Even with a high price tag, the XPS is definitely well worth the expense, with its powerful processor, functional ergonomics, and the neat design.
