Like most laptops from Dell, the Dell Vostro 1520 is targeted for business use. Specifically for people who run small to medium-scale businesses. It is portable and has a wide variety of configurations. The display is 15.4” just a mere 2 inches smaller than its competitor, the HP Compaq 610 which has a 15.6” screen display. Then again, the size of the screen isn’t that important. The goal is always to be able to use it for various tasks comfortably.
As if to add to the convenience, Dell Vostro 1520 measures 357mm x 258mm x 38mm and weighs at around 2.5 kilograms.
As already mentioned, the Dell Vostro 1520 lets you choose from different configurations. If you have a tight budget, then you may opt for an Intel Celeron 900 processor and a hard drive of 160GB SATA. If you prefer something faster then why not have an racy Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 2.66 GHz with a fast 128 GB Solid State Drive. If that’s not enough, you have an Nvidia 9300 graphics card. Of course, with the upgrades come increases in weight. So think carefully what it is you really want on a Dell Vostro series laptop.

Pros:
Most laptops in the market come as they are but not the Dell Vostro 1520. By having different configurations, you can customize the laptop to suit your needs. If you’re the type to use a laptop only for the necessities like document writing or computing, then you won’t need that much hardware or add-ons. However if you like to have both business and pleasure then better get those high-end processors and even higher storage space. Better graphics card and lithium ion batteries with longer life span may also help.
The Dell Vostro 1520 is also known for its durability and quality. Its parts are not made from cheap plastics that easily break. It also has rigid casing which makes it easier to carry in backpacks.
The touch-sensitive keyboard makes it a good machine to use especially for touchtypers.
Cons:
The Dell Vostro 1520 thuogh may not be the laptop that you may want to show around. Its design is simple and not that stylish since it looks like your average notebook.
Its built-in web camera only has 1.3 MP but you can always upgrade this for better video conferences.
Dell Vostro 1520 also has some trouble when it comes to heating. The fan sort of bogs down after sometime and even the palm rest gets warm rather quickly.
Conclusion:
The Dell Vostro 1520 looks ordinary but it is portable and very dependable. The Dell Vostro 1520 won’t appeal only to businesspersons but possibly students as well. The Dell Vostro 1520 has a good balance between price, durability, portability and performance.
